Project 1:

Experiencing Space - Spatial Translation

This project consisting of two part (1A and 1B) required me to work in a group of three to four with focus on “Experiencing Space”  to explore into spatial poetics by studying on famous architect works and translating a given narrative into an architectural structure using two to three Modifying Elements of Architecture on a given hypothetical sites to allow the experiencer to experience the narrative by experiencing the space.

1 A - PRECEDENT STUDIES : Analyzing spatial poetics in architecture

In part A, we are going to select two modifying element and two precedents study. Then we need to identify, understand and analyse each modifying elements from each precedents study to get know on the technique and skill of how the architect applying the element into a architectural design in order to create spatial poetic and experiences at the same time is well functioning.

1B - Spatial Translation: Applying spatial poetic in architecture

After we study on the architecture work, we are choosing one out of three written narratives. Interpreting the chosen narrative, extract the ‘essence’ of the given narrative and translate the narrative into spatial experience flow of physical architecture structure with similar experience on the spatial and the written narrative by considering the spatial typologies, section-plan relationship, contextual conditions, and most important is the consideration of human scale, natural light, materiality and textures.

MODIFYING ELEMENTS

  • Light and shadow

  • Colour

  • Temperature

  • Sound

  • Air movement •

  • Smell (and taste)

  • Texture and touch

  • Scale (and proportion)

  • Time

Reflection

Through this project, I learned how to explore into a new knowledge by myself by analyze on an architecture work and study how they design an architectural building with a series of narrative and spatial poetical experience. Besides, a chance was given by the project to involve myself into a project to generate an architecture design based on a given narrative.

In the group I clearly know my own position in the group of 4. Throughout the project, I like to give my opinion during the discussion and at the same time listening to others to gain extra knowledge and idea on the design. "TEMPORAL" was use as our design name after discussion to interpret the idea of our work and bring out the narrative that we chose---"A Beautiful View is Fleeting". During the project, I did what i know and learn what I don't and play my role well in the idea and design thinker. As it is the first time using digital modelling application, we not familiar with it but I am happy with the effort that we given into the project
