Architectural Design Strategy -

Embrace of the Sparkles

Coming after the the development stage are the refine & resolving stage of the design process. Now is the time I have to face the reality and fact in this architecture field which the core will be swift again from developing the our "fancy" design narrative on architecture strategy in response to community and the urban context to the consideration on the question "How to turn this concept in to a building physically?".

 

Aim: to develop an architectural narration for place making in the city and to perform an integrated design.

Hence, the design will be further resolved and improve in the holistic application of structural, spatial, technical, environmental, services, and legislative requirements to address the user needs for an urban Community Centre

  1. Positive outdoor space (site layout)

  2. Building massing form

  3. Spatial Planning

  4. Activities & Circulation

  5. Animating the edge (Façade design)

  6. Sustainable design consideration

  7. Thriving public realm (connection to the street)

  8. Technical and services integration through concepts and components

Glad to mention is, Architecture Design Studio V also cooperating with the the other two subject which are

  1. "Green Strategies for Building Design"

    • to skill us with sustainable design knowledge and ensure we have the ability to achieve a more sustainable building environment as we step into the real field as an responsibility toward ourselves, to our community and to out mother of nature

  2. "​Building Services"

    • Allowing us to apply the technical knowledge in mechanical area to the building hence, the entire construction and maintenance work will be easier and more user and environmental friendly.

With hundred and thousand of consideration, everything have been compile into this single building. This building is preserving most of the genius loci in term of construction method, building materials and repurpose some building materials by learning the strategies from some architecture works as precedents studies. 

All the setting is purpose to maintain the basic living need of local and also to immerse my user into the the atmosphere of the building setting which is fill with sense of nostalgia, community, warmth and life. User will take a journey down their memories and back to the past  enjoying the beauty of old. 

Final Outcome

Finally, "The Embrace of the Sparkles" have been presented during my final presentation.

The word "EMBRACE" bring the idea to hold back and hold firmly all of our local elements.

While the "SPARKLES" represent the hope in the darkness which describing the simple and the nostalgic is priceless and are priceless. This simple and not-eye-catching things always forgotten by us but it is also always our sources of happiness.

Little Sparkles will lit and shine in the darkness.

​

I believe this building will lit up this forgotten site with these meaningful activities and let the light of heritage pass from one generation to another, standing firm with our culture and fight for the identity of the site.

Progression - interim

Concluding the design thinking and concept before being finalized. All the needs, and demand of the user is being listed with respect to the spatial planning sequence and human behavior.

​

During interim, comment was given accordingly and problem and confuses were being solved with the help and proper consultation and suggestion from the tutors.

​

Hence, some question of construction and detailing will be need to be consider and be solved after this.

Final Report

Finally, every step and thinking I have done were record and book into the final report.

Reflection

All and all, I am glad that I have gone through this during my university program which allowing me to gain as much as I can. This allowing me to know being an architect have a responsible to take care, and to protect of our country with our ability.

Along this semester, I gain something different that is never known before. By studying five Lynch's element and six dimension of design theory, I realized urban look simple but is complicated. Walking along the street what we see and what we feel is all the thinking of the earlier urban designer.

​

After this, one new practices have been install into my mind. When I walking along the street observe, feel and think the design process of each building, this will let me learn the wisdom of our ancestor who successfully built up this roman. As during studio V I have know site visit and analysis is not just number, it is my feeling toward the site. Being fused into the local is the most important to bring a good design to the site and at the same time acceptable by teh local.

Last but not least, architecture is always a journey, we all are helping each other to growth. I am appreciate my tutor, Dr. Nora who pay her most patient to listen to my idea and give her professional advise to me when I facing challenge and made me todays.
