Project 02:
Designing with Architectural Principles + Materiality
In this paired collaborative project, I team up with on of my groupmate from Project 1. Using the same architectural principles and elements from previous assignment, we need to design an architectural folly. This folly project was mainly focus on our conceptual and spatial experience of the entire structure. On a maximum volume of 125m3, we have to present a space for self-contemplate by reflecting ourselves, our relationship with nature and others to turn our design that able too fit ourselves into the global pandemic and the use of our understanding on the materiality and architectonics.
Design Intention
Keyword: missing
I wanted to reflect ones situation in this pandemic time who far away from home feel helpless, and full of unknown what will happen to him/her in the future. Yet he stay strong to step forward
Reflected pandemic time who far away from home felt something was missing helpless, and full of unknown what will happen to him/her in the future, yet stay strong to step forward.
Inspiration
Snail Shell (Golden Ratio)
To respond to my key word "missing" with the meaning feeling helpless and want to get a warmth huge. I was inspired by the shape and form of a snail shell.
From the opening of the shell, it was the most open space which is like the status that I am alone walking in a city, looking forward there is "endless" which is like there is full of unknow in the future. Yet, should stay strong and moving forward.
Walking for the interior space of the snail shape become smaller and smaller and finally, at the central of the snail shape is the most private and the bowl shape offering a sense that I was be hugged
Test Model
Test model 1
Firstly, we are trying to apply the architectural principle of Treehouse C which is Grid in the structure organization. Yet, it was look too like a building instead of a folly design.
Test model 2 (week2)
At the second week the assignment me and my groupmate develop two different idea with two of the principle chosen, center spatial organization and grid structure.
Test model 3 (week 2)
This is the sketch model that I have developed, from a snail shell by using steel wire to sketch up the form roughly.
My idea was comment interested, and could ne future develop.
Test model 4
In the test model 4, both of us was trying to apply triangle grid structure on the façade of our design.
However, we are planed to make it in a more minimal appearance so the experiencer may nor feel pressure when walk through the structure.
Final Test model
At the last model, We finalize our design together with the structure, and also the plain façade.
At the end, it was look more like our inspiration, Snail Shell which is plain, smooth and minimal.

Orthographic Drawing
Key Drawing
This key Drawing, tell how the experiencer was being hug by the sphere and how is the warmness of sun penetrate in to the sphere and offering the experiencer the warmness of home
The façade was set a poetic meaning with present of moon phase as we walking into the structure giving the braveness to the experience to be brave in encountering all the unknow.
Reflection
In this assignment, I felt that I have enhanced my skilled in design conceptual thinking and sensory designing as I am the one who taking the task to built up the entire spatial experience to meet the keyword of our design “MISSING” cooperating design with characteristic the materials . Besides, I was glad that I manage to use one design principle from project one alternatively, transforming a cubic form in to a spiral form at the same time maintaining the design principle. I am much appreciating my tutor, Ar. Patma providing me and my teammate a professional advice while keeping us in a relax status. “Do what you want to do and have fun!” this simple and warmth sentence from her will keep in my mind along my architecture life.
