Site Analysis & Design Response

(KEPONG BOTANICAL GARDEN)

A big group assignment, all of the students were involved to study the site more comprehensively. Students from different tutorial groups were divided into different analysis group (Historical, Demographic, Climatic Analysis, Site Zoning, Circulation, Natural Features, Man-made features, Human activities etc.) to conduct a data collection when having a site visit. After that, we were back to our own tutorial group deliver back our data collected within the tutorial group. At the end, each tutorial group will come out with their own unique concept design and design responding to the site based on the data collected.

SITE ANALYSIS

In order to understand and well-response toward the sense of place with strong engagement and relationship to the given site in Kepong and also Kepong Botanical Garden, a site analysis by students of a whole tutorial group from the macro site to micro site and from historical research to site condition were well analyzed as a series of parameters to suggest architectural solution along the design process. Also a general designed concept was produced by the whole tutorial group in term of the design direction, suggested target user, suggested plus component and the spatial quality that wanted to be present to the target user.

Reflection

This assignment gave me a best working experience as this is the first site analysing project that allowing me to really visit the site at Kepong Botanical Garden. Also, this putting me into a sort of real-life situation which I was against what I may meet in the future, when I work as an architect. Moreover, this working style allowing me to familiar with the critical step in the construction process to work with the other profession and achieving the same goal of each other which is much similar with this project setting to allow all of us to work and corporate to produce an amazing work.
